A Leader in Me School

A Leader in Me School

ELD Teacher
GT Teacher

When I was a 5th grader, I decided to become a teacher because I was inspired by my 5th grade teacher, Mr. Rose.  I saw that teaching can encompass every interest and passion I might have, and it would never be boring!  I want my students to experience the love of learning and inspiration for life that I experienced at this level.

Educational and Professional Background

I have been part of the Lopez Team since 2016. My bachelor's degree was in music and elementary education.  I was a multi-grade classroom teacher for several years before I got a Master’s in curriculum for gifted.  After a dozen years of teaching gifted students in Windsor and Loveland, I’m now teaching English language learners and gifted students in PSD.

Personal Interests and Hobbies

Colorado has been my home since 1990, but I have been able to see a lot of the world.  Born in Nigeria, I’ve also lived in Ghana, Great Britain, and on the Navajo Indian Reservation. My husband and I enjoying hiking, cross-country skiing, and nature photography.  Not having children of my own, I look forward to every day with your kids!

About My Classroom

In English Language Development we study listening, speaking, reading and writing in English.  At Lopez we have had more than five languages represented. Our goal is to develop the language of learning that we need to be effective students.  With that in mind, we begin with oral language to help us read and write correctly.  We encourage each other's efforts because we are all on the road to success!

In Enrichment/GT we work together to dig into math concepts at and above grade level. We use Depth and Complexity icons to study vocabulary and analyze literature. Students also have the opportunity to choose research and creative projects throughout the year.

PSD does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, veteran status, age or disability in access or admission to, or treatment or employment in, its programs or activities. A lack of English speaking skills will not be a barrier to admission or participation.
