"A book is a dream you hold in your hands." -Neil Gaiman
Welcome to the Lopez Library Media Center, where the overall philosophy, mission and goals of Lopez Elementary School are reflected. Through classrooms and the library, students have access to a wide-variety of books needed for all purposes of reading. We believe in a student’s right to choose books that personally interest them and in which they see themselves reflected. By reading regularly, students expand their imaginations, open up worlds of limitless exploration, and see their dreams come true.
Mistakes happen! If you believe that your child returned a book, but you’re receiving notices from the school, please let us know. We’re always happy to do a shelf check for the book. Also ask your child to check his/her book box or desk at school. Did the child leave the book at another caregiver’s house? A friend’s house or base camp?
After 60 days, “overdue” books automatically become “lost” books, and you will receive a bill for the replacement cost of the book. We very much appreciate your paying for lost books if you are able. Tight book budgets mean that lost books cannot be replaced automatically by the school. Lost books may be paid for by check or cash at the school office or by SchoolPay.
If a student is consistently losing or damaging library books, some of their library privileges may be revoked.
Keep Books Safe and Clean
Please help your child learn to responsibly take care of library books:
Please do not color, highlight, write or draw on library books
Please do not bend books or tear pages
Please keep books in a safe, designated place out of reach from pets or younger siblings
Please keep books away from liquids and food
Please be careful when storing books in desks or transporting in backpack
