Common Core State Standards
Colorado adopted the Common Core State Standards in 2010. The standards define what students in grades PreK-12 should know and be able to do in the areas of English/Language Arts and Mathematics. At the time Colorado adopted the common core, they had nearly finalized their own revision to the state standards. Many of the state standards that were mirrored by the common core were incorporated. Colorado added a few expectations that are specific to our state. As a school district, we do use the Colorado Academic Standards to create and plan lessons. Announced December 2013: Lopez Elementary named recipient of Colorado Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award
The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. On the school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools “exceed” expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and “meet or exceed” expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps.
