Second Grade

Welcome to Second Grade at Lopez!

Second grade is an exciting year of growth and discovery! At Lopez, we focus on developing the 8 Habits of Happy, Healthy, and Highly Effective Kids, helping students build leadership skills and confidence every day.

Academically, second grade is a big transition — students start to move from learning to read to reading to learn, while continuing to strengthen their 21st-century skills. In math, we dive into problem-solving and explore mathematical practices that encourage critical thinking. Our science and social studies units spark curiosity as we learn about habitats, matter, water, and more, as well as our community’s rich history and how it shapes the world today.

Annual Highlights of Second Grade:

  • 🏠 A visit to Auntie Stone’s cabin and an old schoolhouse
  • 🦋 A trip to the Butterfly Pavilion
  • 🎤 Our leadership showcase: Live @ Lopez

Second grade is all about building strong academic foundations while fostering independence, collaboration, and leadership. We can’t wait to partner with you and make this year a memorable one for your child!
