A Leader in Me School

First Grade

Welcome to 1st Grade at Lopez!

First grade is an exciting year of growth and discovery! Our classrooms are warm, supportive spaces where students build confidence, independence, and a love for learning. We value each child’s unique strengths and work together to help them reach their full potential.

Building Strong Foundations
In first grade, students strengthen their reading and writing skills, develop number sense, and explore science and social studies through hands-on learning. Our curriculum is based on the Colorado Academic Standards and taught through district-adopted programs in literacy, math, science, social studies, and writing.

Social & Emotional Growth
First grade is also a time for growing friendships and learning how to work as part of a team. We use the Leader in Me model and the 8 Habits to help students practice leadership, responsibility, and empathy every day.

We’re excited to partner with you and support your child as they learn, grow, and thrive in first grade!
