A Leader in Me School

Raquel Shusta

Kindergarten Teacher

My name is Raquel Shusta and I was born and raised in Colorado. I grew up in the mountains, where I found my love of the outdoors. I have been married to Greg since 2012 and we have 2 amazing kids, who currently attend Lopez. We only have 1 pet, a cat named Kiki. And we call Fort Collins our home!

Educational and Professional Background

I attended the University of Northern Colorado, where I received a bachelor's in Human Rehabilitation Services and a master's in Early Childhood Special Education.  I started teaching in 2004 at Bal Swan Children's Center in Broomfield.  This is where I found my love of teaching.  In 2008, I started teaching at Sanborn Elementary, in the St. Vrain Valley School District.  I loved my experience in the St. Vrain Valley School District and feel fortunate to have worked there.  Then in 2010, I was lucky enough to get a job in PSD.  I started out as an early childhood special education teacher and then switched to kindergarten.  I love teaching kindergarten and I could not imagine doing anything else.  I was once told that if you look at your job as a hobby, than you have the perfect job.  This would be my case.  I love working at Lopez Elementary and have grown so much as a teacher here.

Personal Interests and Hobbies

The most important thing in my life is my family.  My favorite thing to do is watch my children play their sports. They currently play soccer, basketball, and baseball. We love to ski, swim, camp, hike, travel and explore new cultures.  Finally, I love to read!! It is my favorite activity to do without my family.
